The Lyra Groove Triple 1 Pencil Crayons are delightfully thick, triangular pencils with the special Lyra Groove notches in the pencil shaft. These pencils are perfect for use for preschoolers from the age of about 3 or 4 years.

At this stage, the child is likely to start refining his pencil grasp from a less mature fisted grasp, to a more refined tripod pencil grasp. The grooved notches in this pencil provide good tactile input for the pads of the child's thumb, index, and middle fingers, as well as making it easier for him to feel the pencil shaft and to position his fingers more correctly on the shaft. Please note that the notches are not actual places where the child should position his fingers, but they do provide good sensory feedback offering a textured surface on the shaft of this correctly sized tripod pencil.

With the Lyra Groove Triple 1, you have a watercolour pencil, coloured pencil, and wax crayon all in one. The bright, uniform colours are water-soluble and easy to blend. The child can colour his picture and can then use a paintbrush to spread water over the coloured area to create a watercoloured painting.

Note: The pencils can easily be sharpened with the special STABILO sharpeners which you will find in the "Lefty’s Corner". (Sharpeners for left-handers have the blade edge on the right side so they fully serve use with the left hand.)
